Have you ever wondered what it would be like to learn to make hand built functional pieces, like cups, small plates, and bowls, or decorative pieces like garden ornaments, planters and soap dishes? Want to discover the simplicity in the slow process of hand-building techniques, such as working with coils, pinch pots and slabs? This hand building class will take you through the three basic processes of construction (slab, pinch and coil) as well as the essentials in joining clay for hand built forms.
I invite you to join our small-group pottery hand-building classes, consisting of six classes held at the same day and time each week, over six weeks. Please check the dates carefully as no make-up classes are offered for this term. Carefully consider the cancellation policy below prior to booking. Scroll through the images to see examples of work made by beginner potters in recent classes.
These classes are suitable for first timers who are starting from scratch, as well as being suitable for creators who have some basic skills and are looking for a community to engage with whilst completing guided projects. You will find supportive guidance in a small group of six (maximum), with the tools necessary to make your own decorative and functional ceramics.
The course fee includes clay, use of studio equipment, your own set of basic pottery tools, bisque firing and glaze firing of up to 10 suitable pieces made in class, no-larger-than 15cm cubed per piece. A maximum of one plate per student is included. Additional work, larger hand-built pieces and platters may attract a firing surcharge. If you create considerably larger pieces which do not fit into the kiln in this studio you will be required to seek firing elsewhere at your own expense.
The dates for this series of classes are Tuesday evenings, 6:30pm until 8:45pm (2 hrs making time, 15 minutes clean up):
1. April 29th
2. May 6th
3. May 13th
4. May 20th
5. May 27th
6. June 3rd
Once enrolled you will receive an email with information on what to wear, what to bring, and important information for health and safety within two weeks of the course commencement date.

When I found out that Alison was planning pottery workshops, I was in. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be gathering some friends who now want to do the same after I raved about it. I highly recommend Alison’s workshops. Can’t wait till the next one.
I would like to thank Alison for her time and instruction for the pottery lessons she has given me. She is highly passionate and knowledgeable in the manner in which she passes on her art of pottery in the most relaxed manner.
Alison is a supportive, relaxed, and helpful teacher and her workshops are relaxed, fun, meditative, educational, and inspiring. I absolutely loved the workshop with Alison there was no silly questions and she has the patience of a Saint with all types of personalities. Knowing nothing about pottery before I attended the workshop and having a creative streak I was like a sponge. It was quite surreal and relaxing. We all felt supported and encouraged to create.
I bought two products as gifts last Christmas but both my husband and I fell in love with them all ... so we decided to keep them. The bowls in particular are our fave, so much so that we’ve ordered more. We use them several times a week for hot and cold dishes, we aren’t precious about them. They go straight in the dishwasher and continue to look new.

Muditation Facilitator
Hi, I'm Alison, and I have been playing with clay since my first pottery class over 20 years ago.
My love of clay has seen my hobby turn into an obsession that has now transformed half of my home into a cosy studio, which I invite you to enjoy with me.
I find clay play to be very mindful - that's why I refer to it as my 'muditation'. Its ability to reduce stress and feelings of anxiety is also quite therapeutic.
Please check my Workshops section to find out about up-coming events; many of the workshops are one-off "Dirty Date Nights", short courses, and 7-week pottery classes using the potter's wheel. These are very small groups to ensure a level of support that will help you love what you have made.
Please contact me if you would like to make a private group booking for a special occassion.
